Dennis Whittle is a leader in international social entrepreneurship. He spoke at Campus Y on Thursday about how aspiring students can use their skills to promote progressive change in social, economic and environmental affairs. Whittle is a co-founder of GlobalGiving, which is an organization that connects charities and donors with social improvement projects that need funding.
He spoke about the importance of social entrepreneurship to improve the quality of life in developing countries, which he said is especially relevant int eh wake of the Japanese disaster. The director of Campus Y said that student-led ventures often develop into successful organizations that can have a worldwide impact.
The recent success of the UNC-born Nourish International is a good example, as this student-led effort has evolved into a multi-chapter organization that is now building community centers in Thailand.
