Annamarie Rhyne is the co-founder of BooksOnPurpose, and she is one of many business owners now following an emerging business model called social entrepreneurship in an attempt to balance sustainability with profit. Rhyne says that for here, the choice comes down to the philosophy that the more you give, the more you get in return.
BooksOnPurpose sells used books that would otherwise be thrown out and uses the profit to help build libraries in Nigeria. It also encourages Nigerian students to read by working with them one-on-one. She says it bothers her to see books being thrown away, and she believes that most companies could find more to give if they were focused on it.
Rhyne saw how her parents struggled financially with their non-profit organization for children with special needs, and realized that social entrepreneurship was a better way to fund charity work.
