New Jersey senators are encouraging residents to be mindful of environmental concerns and do everything in their power to reduce waste, and in particular electronic waste via recycling.
It is very important for items that contain personal information to be disposed of properly, and in addition the new Electronic Waste Management Act went into effect on Jan. 1, banning the disposal of computers and televisions into local landfills. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, recyclers recover more than 100 million pounds of materials each year from discarded electronics that can easily be reused in the manufacturing of a new product.
Efforts to conserve valuable and limited resources provide a great benefit to the environment, as less materials are extracted and less pollution is generated in the creation of a new electronic device.
