World Fair Trade Day is an international celebration of fair trade that is held on May 14.

The designated day is an initiative of the World Fair Trade Organization and is supported by thousands of citizens, Fair Trade Organizations, social and environmental movements, producers and consumers around the world. Local authorities, national governments and multilateral institutions have been supporting fair trade for several decades now, and this year’s events will be taking place in over 80 countries worldwide.

Fair trade is about dignity and hope for farmers and artisans who produce the items we consume and enjoy. Some communities will celebrate the day by holding events like fair trade breakfasts, which are communal meals that feature as many fair trade certified products as possible supplemented with locally grown products.

Other events include fashion shows featuring clothing made from fair trade materials, and film showings of documentaries on fair trade.
