While some of you may have reservations about Trump’s dabbling in political affairs, it’s clear however that he is an expert at business. Donald Trump’s reality TV show, Celebrity Apprentice, does have alot to offer its viewers.

The Real Business of Celebrity Apprentice

Along with its drama and squabbles, there are also plenty of business lessons to learn. Not only that, the show is all for a good cause, with big name celebrities like Meatloaf, La Toya Jackson, Lil Jon, Marlee Matlin and John Rich vying to take the lead to raise the most for their charity. In one of the episodes, one of the teams led by Marlee Matlin raised a stellar 1 million dollars!

I watched the most recent US version of the Celebrity Apprentice, and there were a number of business lessons that social entrepreneurs can take on.

Success Secret #1: Leadership

The hit TV show Celebrity Apprentice offers many practical lessons for real life business people. During a recent episode, the two teams of celebrities squared off on an assignment to create a children’s book for charity. The reluctant project manager of the losing team, Lisa Rinna, claimed during a board room battle that she was “thrown under the bus” by her team members.

While she was clearly targeted by her own teammates in an attempt to get her fired, the concept of being “thrown under the bus” is too often used as an excuse for poor performance. When you have a strong personality, and are a leader, then you will not allow others to get the best of you or to overpower you. If you are in a situation where you are being challenged, you will face up to the challengers and over come the obstacle rather then whining about being thrown under the bus.

Success Secret #2: Teamwork

Of course, it is these dramatic boardroom battles on Celebrity Apprentice that give the show a certain soap opera element and make it so entertaining to many people. The show allows viewers to see a side of these celebrities that is not always glamorous as they bicker and sometimes crack under pressure.

Each show is guaranteed to provide viewers with some valuable insights on leadership, human nature, competition, and successful strategies for business. For example, one of the themes that is always recurring is the value of teamwork. Rarely in any business is success accomplished without the collective efforts of team members. Celebrities on the show tend to have big egos, which leads to a lot of petty infighting (as seen with Nene Leakes and Star Jones – Ouch!). How they manage this factor more often then not is what makes or breaks a team’s success.

It was also apparent that the two remaining competitors at the end, Marelee Matlin, and John Rich, were very adept at working in a team, as well as leading one too.
