RSF Social Finance is a non-profit financial services organization that is providing loan capital to Kuskokwim Seafoods, LLC in Bethel, Alaska. The small salmon processing company is certified by the Marine Stewardship Council, and provides an important revenue source to a community of native fishermen and other local residents.

The fishermen are paid fair market prices for their salmon catch and have the ability to sell closer to home while providing employment opportunities and fair wages to workers on their processing barge. This arrangement benefits consumers as well who can purchase the wild and sustainably caught fish through restaurants and retailers like Whole Foods.

For over ten years there was no commercial fishery in Bethel and thus no opportunities for the native fishermen to sell their salmon and support their way of life. Now, through social capital investment, their lives have the potential to change for the better.
