The first International Impact Investing Challenge offered over $40,000 in prizes to winning teams from top social entrepreneurship MBA programs across the country.
This invitation-only event required students to design investment vehicles that create sustainable impact and are large enough to attract institutional investors. Twelve MBA programs were invited to send a team to represent their program at the JP Morgan headquarters in New York.
Students pitched their investment ideas there to a panel of experienced investors and senior officers of family foundations, pension funds and university endowments. The team from Kellogg School of Management won first place for their proposal of a Grain Fund Depot, which would be a REIT that would focus on building grain storage facilities and then renting the space out to small farmers in India.
