Minnesota Social Entrepreneurship Competition

The Minnesota Cup social entrepreneurship competition winner this year was HourCar, a car-sharing company based in St. Paul which will receive $20,000 for their first place finish.

The nonprofit company is operated by Neighborhood Energy Connection, which is a pioneer or car sharing in the state. Members of HourCar are able to reserve fuel-efficient vehicles for a limited period for $6 to $8 per hour plus 25 cents per mile, with no charges for insurance, maintenance, fuel or depreciation.

The Minnesota Cup is an annual contest to promote the most innovative businesses in the state in the areas of biotech, cleantech, high tech, social entrpreneurship, general business and student business. Four finalists in each category are selected to present their ideas at EPCON: The Engaged Philanthropy Conference where the winner is selected by attendees.
