Rashmi Bansal, who is a successful social entrepreneur, author, and graduate of the Indian Institute of Management, has some social entrepreneurship education advice for those aspiring to start their own social enterprise.

According to Bansal, you don’t need an MBA to be a social entrepreneur. She suggests that prospective MBA students should focus on starting their own social enterprises or at least developing ideas for them before they go to business school. This hands-on experience is invaluable in learning to think for yourself. They can also join existing organizations in the social enterprise sector as a way of learning about the space.

This experience can help them to be more successful in starting their own ventures later on. Bansal stresses the importance of developing leadership skills for social entrepreneurs, because the biggest challenge is often building the right team of people and motivating them with the right incentives.
