The Change.org social entrepreneurship blog will now feature posts by author Nell Edgington, who is also the President of Social Velocity nonprofit management consultancy. One of her most recent posts on the site is about “The Danger of Abandoning the Nonprofit Sector “ in favor of for-profit social enterprise.

She argues that the great danger in dismissing the sector is that it overlooks the potential of nonprofits to innovate, and disregards their long history of innovation which helped spur the development of the social entrepreneurship movement. She believes that if the nonprofit sector is neglected rather than encouraged to innovate, the global effort to solve social problems will be severely harmed. That’s because the nonprofit sector represents a significant part of the economy with a history that has allowed it to build valuable resources.
