ThinkChange highlights the largest attempt at social marketing in India by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This group is launching a national test of a new scheme to provide ID numbers to all Indian citizens for the first time.

This presents a huge social marketing challenge for UIDAI, which is based in New Delhi and chaired by a founder of Infosys. The group wants to assign universal 12 digit ID numbers to over 600 million people in about 4 years. The high profile team of marketing professionals employed by UIDAI has reached into both the public and private sectors to implement the ambitious government scheme. UIDAI has turned tot he most brilliant and experienced marketing professionals to make this important project a success in a country where the idea of universal ID is novel, to say the least.
