Youth social entrepreneurship programs are an effective way to help encourage young people to think big and pursue their educational goals. These programs are often targeted towards at-risk students in an effort to keep them from dropping out of school by teaching hands-on skills which are relevant to them. These programs engage teenagers by helping them to brainstorm business ideas and develop detailed, professional business plans.
Some participants have gone on to raise outside capital based on their business plans and turn them into profitable ventures. Students who participate in these programs often come away with a notable sense of improved self-confidence in their own abilities, and that can translate positively into all areas of their life. The programs also teach responsibility, which is something that is often lacking among young people who do poorly in school.
