Charity online in India is taking the form of online auctions, with more NGOs reaching out to bidders with auctions for cars, celebrity meetings, and clothing. Some of these auctions are being conducted through eBay India, such as a recent auction for private gym workouts with Salman Khan and cricket lessons with Sachin Tendulkar.

Ebay India has started up a special program dedicated to online fundraising as a corporate social responsibility initiative. Since it began in 2005, the program has generated over Rs 1.5 crore for nonprofits, wiht some of the most lucrative auctions raising funds up to Rs 30 lakh.

More than 65 NGOs have taken advantage of eBay auctions services so far, as it offers the potential to reach over 100 million bidders throughout the subcontinent. As more people become comfortable with online bidding, this growth looks set to continue.
