Ken Robinson is a well known author who writes on the subjects of creativity, education and business strategy. His book called Out of Our Minds: Learning to be Creative has been published in several editions since the year 2000, and has inspired many people.

The latest version of the book has seen many updates due to how much things have changed in the last decade. The pace of change has become frantic and the issues at the heart of the book have become even more pressing.

For instance, the rate of change in technology has seen the internet go from a novelty ten years ago to an essential technology today. Ten years ago there were also no smartphones or social media sites that are now transforming culture and economics around the world.

TED Talk By Ken Robinson on Shortcomings of the School System

A TED Talk by Ken Robinsion focuses on the shortcomings of the modern school system in addressing the challenges of a rapidly changing world.

He notes that education is key to the future of society, which is becoming ever more difficult to predict. Children have extraordinary capacities for innovation, but these are not being developed by school systems.

Robinson argues that creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and that it should be treated with the same status. He notes that school systems tend to penalize kids for making mistakes and being wrong, and that this causes them to lose their capacity for risk taking and creativity as adults.

This problem is not unique to the American school system, but it is a feature of every major education system on earth that you can find the same hierarchy of subjects, with math and languages at the top, then the humanities, and at the bottom are the arts.
