The OECD has launched a social entrepreneurship job research project which is known as the LEED project. This project is designed to examine the role which social enterprise plays in job creation in the context of the complex problem of social cohesion in the modern world. The role of social enterprise to have a positive impact in this respect has been documented in many case studies around the world, which is one of the reasons why social entrepreneurship has been encouraged by many governments as a way of building social capital and encouraging local development.
The LEED project will take a comprehensive look at the ability of social enterprise to contribute to job creation in countries around the world, providing policy makers with a realistic assessment of the various factors which make social enterprises successful in creating jobs.
